We made a list with five amazing places that offer the bests brunches for those who wants a good meal and still enjoy a day at the beach, without losing the sunset.
1. Confeitaria Colombo do Forte de Copacabana
Forte de Copacabana, Posto 6
Timetable: Tue-Sun 10am-8pm
The building of the Confeitaria Colombo, at the Forte de Copacabana, doesn`t have the beauty of the main one, in the Centro (center of the city). But the thing here, however, is the spectacular view of the most famous beach of the Marvelous City. It’s the perfect program for a sunny day. You can choose the famous pastries, snacks and waffles, as well as various types of teas, coffees and juices. It’s the perfect marriage: a delicious brunch with a beautiful view. Only a detail, to get there in the Forte, you need to pay a fee of R$4.00 (R$2.00 half-price).
2. Padaria União
Rua Humaitá, 148 – Humaitá
Timetable: Mon-Sun 5:45am-9pm
One of the most native-in-Rio programs is to get your coffee in a bakery, and this one is special. It is the Padaria União, known for having one of the best breads (if not the best!) of the city. The atmosphere is very casual and all the staff are old and friendly. It’s kind of a pretty simple place, but has a special charm. You can choose all kinds of sandwichs (from the most “lights” to the super big ones) and sit on the small balcony to read the newspaper.
3. Café Carandaí
Rua Lopes Quinta, 165. Jardim Botânico
Timetable: Mon-Sat 9am-8pm | Sun 9am-2pm
Serves homemade and simple food prepared with top quality ingredients. The kitchen is open and there is a very informal atmosphere. On weekends all the delights are arranged on a buffet: grilled baguette with butter, mixed eggs with french toast, organic yogurt cup with coulis of red berries and granola, baguette boat with melted cheese, scones with fresh cream and homemade jam; besides cappuccino, hot chocolate, latte macchiato and other gourmet coffee options.
4. Casa da Táta
Rua Professor Manoel Ferreira, 89 – Gávea
Timetable: Mon-Fri 8am-8pm | Sat 8am-6:30pm | Sun 9am-2pm
The Casa da Táta started very tiny in Gávea and today already tripled in size. Myself, and the residents of the surrounding area as well, are fans of the delicious food. The homemade breads are delicious, but the spotlight here is in the cake (in fact, the cakes). Personally I have two favorites: the “Formigueiro” (white cake with chocolate sprinkles and chocolate topping) and the good old orange cake with a delicious sugar topping.
5. Escola do Pão
Rua General Garzon, 10 – Lagoa
Timetable: Sat-Sun and Holidays 9am-1pm
If you are looking for a top chic place to have your coffee, nothing better than the Escola do Pão. The bistro (which also serves lunch and dinner) is a little bit expensive but offers all the good and the better. So if you are not into eating a lot, you better choose another place. The breakfast is so big and rich that you may want to skip lunch. Are served milk shake, various types of juices and jams, eggs, papaya with granola, grilled cheese, brie with apricot, and other delicious things.
